How to measure for vertical blind slats only

Take down one of your slats, lay it down flat on a table or the floor.

Make sure it is straight and level.

Get a metal tape measure and measure from the bottom of the slat to the the other end of the slat. If you look at the photo below, you will see it includes the bottom pocket for the weight and the top pocket for the hanger.

DO NOT MEASURE the hanger as well.

This is the EXACT SLAT length. Not the RECESS SIZE

This is the length we will make your slats.

All slats are sewn, except Contralite, Unilux and the Faux Suede, these are joined by special double sided tape.

This is because these fabrics are all blackout and if you sew them, you can see pin-prick holes if they are sewed.

If you already have your headrail fixed, but you have no slats to measure, we can send you a sample pack which contains a double hole hanger (see photo on left)

1) Fix the hanger onto your headrail as if you were going to hang your slat,

2) Then measure from the top of the hanger, where the fabric sits, to the window sill.

3) Then most important, subtract 10mm (which is just under 1/2") this will give you a clearance of 10mm (1/2") When your new slats are hanging from the headrail, you will have a clearance of 10mm + or - 2mm (1/2")

This gives you the EXACT slat length.

The EXACT SLAT LENGTH is from the top of the slat (see right hand photo, below) which includes the hanger pocket down to the bottom of the slat, which includes the bottom pocket for the weight. (see photo, bottom left)

Points to watch for when measuring your slats

If you have a wide window (Conservatory) check the length of the slats on both sides and in the middle, as some slats might have been made at different lengths. Not all windows are square!

Remember all vertical blind fabrics come with batch numbers (like wallpaper) so if you buy one slat, then buy the rest at a later date, they might be a slightly different shade.
